After car trading and freelancing for Auto Express, Carweek and Car Choice, I became ‘Honest John’: reader motoring advisor for The Daily Telegraph in January 1995, wrote eight books, then founded the honestjohn.co.uk website in January 2000 based on what 100 readers a day were telling me about their cars. It was Newspress ‘Automotive Website of the Year’ in 2015, 2016 and 2017 for the “unique way it engaged with its readers.” In 2020 a question was asked on ‘The Chase’, ‘Who is the most trustworthy motoring journalist?’ The “correct answer” was Honest John. My new website, honestcaranswers.com intends to perpetuate that integrity.
