Southern Group members triumph at annual Guild of Motoring Writers Awards

Last month’s annual Guild of Motoring Writers (GOMW) Awards saw Southern Group members triumph in a winning end to the year.

The 2024 GOMW Awards presentation was held on 5th December at the RAC venue in Pall Mall, London, with the Guild celebrating a milestone 80th year in existence.

SGMW 2025 NEW YEAR HONOURS AND THE WINNERS ARE…

An array of talented writers and content creators were honoured on the night in the presence of their peers, which included two very notable wins for SGMW members.

BCA Feature Writer of the Year Award

The first was the BCA Feature Writer of the Year Award. This gong is a hotly contested one and is given to the writer who’s made the most substantial contribution to automotive feature writing during the year.

This was deservedly won by Maxine Ashford, who presented a fresh take on EVs and the issues faced by disabled drivers when trying to access public charging points, producing a very interesting story that was well-researched.

IVECO Commercial Vehicle Writer of the Year

The second member to win on the night was Trinity Francis, who won the IVECO Commercial Vehicle Writer of the Year for the second successive year. The judges felt that Trinity’s entry “displayed exemplary knowledge of her subject matter, but also a real passion for it.”

A fellow group member was on hand to present the award to Trinity, with IVECO Brand Communications, Events and PR Manager Tyler Heatley on presenting duties for the night.

Trinity was also highly commended for her work in the Genesis Award for Automotive Technology Journalism alongside James Taylor of evo magazine, with the award going to Yousef Ashraf, who is also part of the evo magazine team.

The SGMW committee and members would like to offer their congratulations to both Maxine and Trinity for their respective wins.
