I joined What Car? as a trainee reporter in July 1979. I was never found out, and  have worked full-time as a motoring journalist ever since, avoiding the need for a ‘proper’ job. I’ve been editor of Classic Mercedes magazine since it launched a decade ago, and have contributed substantially to sister title, Mercedes Enthusiast, since it began in 2001.

I have therefore amassed near encyclopedic knowledge of Mercedes-Benz in the post-war period, but have also spent two decades contributing to 911 & Porsche World magazine, and have written for a wide range of other motoring titles over four decades.
